When is Opus 5.5 worth using?

Anthropic highlights improvements in complex codebase work, migrations and audits. Our suggestion: try it on a task where understanding several files or constraints matters, then review the result against your own requirements.

A practical way to choose

Use a representative task before committing a whole workflow. A model that solves a difficult problem in fewer attempts can be more useful than one that merely produces a quick first answer. Check the result, total cost and time spent correcting it.

What changed in API pricing?

Standard Opus 5.5 API input costs $4 per million tokens and output costs $20, compared with $5 and $25 for Opus 5. Cache reads cost $0.20 per million tokens. These are API prices, not Claude subscription fees.

What about Claude usage limits?

Anthropic announced increased five-hour usage limits for Pro, Max, Team and seat-based Enterprise alongside Opus 5.5. That does not establish a universal message count. Follow the allowance and reset times shown for your account; changing models does not promise a fresh quota.

No. API token billing and included Claude usage are separate systems. Your account settings remain the reference for subscription limits.
