grokKarma Privacy Policy
Overview
grokKarma does not collect, store, or transmit any personal data to external servers while it runs. Your usage information stays on your device.
How it works
grokKarma reads your Grok usage data directly from
grok.com using your existing browser session. This data is
fetched directly from grok.com to your browser, stored
locally on your device only, never sent to external servers, and never
shared with third parties.
Network requests
The extension makes these outbound requests during normal use:
-
grok.com(the official Grok website): to fetch your own usage data and plan tier, using your existing login session. No password is ever stored or seen by the extension. -
api.tokenkarma.app: to fetch the public list of AI providers (names, brand colors, logos) shown in the "Want to track" link and the welcome/update pages. No cookies or credentials, tagged only withsource=grokkarma. Every user gets the same response. -
api.tokenkarma.app(daily heartbeat): once a day, an anonymous health report: extension version, operating system, browser language, and integer health counters (fetch successes, login errors, network errors, setup failures, days since last successful fetch). No install ID, no cookie, no usage content. Each ping only means "one install was active today in this state", so we can detect when an update breaks the extension before users uninstall.
No request carries personal data, an account identifier, or usage content.
Local storage
Stored on your device only: your usage percentages, your account context (for API requests), your preferences (theme, notification settings, tips viewed), and anonymous health counters. Stored via the browser local storage API; never leaves your device while installed.
Uninstall feedback
When you uninstall grokKarma, the browser opens a short feedback page on tokenkarma.app. The extension is no longer running; the browser performs the navigation. The URL carries the extension version, browser language, operating system, and the anonymous integer health counters (fetch successes/failures, days since last success). No user identifier. They exist so we can understand whether people leave because the extension stopped working, and fix it.
Permissions grokKarma asks for
| Permission | Why we need it |
|---|---|
host_permissions: grok.com | Read your usage data |
storage | Save data and preferences locally |
alarms | Refresh usage in the background |
notifications | Alert you at usage thresholds you choose (all configurable) |
Third-party services
grokKarma embeds no third-party analytics, tracking SDKs, or fingerprinting. The tokenkarma.app website (including the post-uninstall feedback page) has its own analytics.
Data security
All data remains in your browser's local storage. We have no servers holding your usage data and no way to access your information.
